A season full of twists and turns will come to its climax when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 22 airs tonight on ABC. The season finale, titled “Beginning of the End,” will put all the chips on the table in Team Coulson’s confrontation with John Garrett, Grant Ward, and the perpetual wriggling enemy that is HYDRA.
The official synopsis for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 22 is sparse on detail, but emphatic as to the importance of tonight’s events.
Dark secrets are revealed as Coulson and his team put everything on the line to stop Garrett and the forces of HYDRA, on the explosive season finale of “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”
On last week’s episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Agent Coulson and his team relied on old-timey technology to infiltrate Cybertek, and discovered that Garrett was the first incarnation of Deathlok. At the same time, Garrett’s systems began to shut down, forcing Raina to use her synthesized GH325 to save his life – and, apparently, give the so-called Clairvoyant some actual powers.
And while the audience delved into Ward’s hard-luck, possible-pet-killing past, the man himself captured FitzSimmons and then chucked them out into the ocean in a metal box. The rest of Team Coulson, meanwhile, found themselves in another tight spot while investigating the cleared-out HYDRA base in Havana.
The preview for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 22 indicates that the action is only going to amp up from here.
The preview for “Beginning of the End” makes sure to note that the Director himself, Nick Fury (the inimitable Samuel L. Jackson) will play a role in tonight’s season finale. Will Fury give Coulson the go-ahead to revive the crumbling S.H.I.E.L.D.? Or does he have another goal in mind?
The sneak peeks from “Beginning of the End” don’t suggest much about Fury’s presence, but they do make it clear that the stakes are more than high enough to warrant the Director’s reappearance. The still photos from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. season 1, episode 22 focus on the manifestation of those stakes, mostly where Coulson and Trip are concerned.
There is no sign of Agent Fitz or Agent Simmons in any of the promotional material for “Beginning of the End,” so we’ll just have to keep our fingers crossed that being dumped into the ocean is not the beginning of their end.
